What Is Halloumi?
Halloumi is a staple of the Mediterranean diet and has a mild, salty flavor. Firm but bendy, it evokes cheese curds or paneer.
If you’re into meal-prepping, low-carb recipes or European foods, it’s likely you’ve heard of it. This white cheese originated in Cyprus and can be made from a mixture of goat and sheep milk, and sometimes cow milk too.
It doesn’t melt the way many other cheeses do, so it’s perfect for grilling or frying. And it can be used as a vegetarian option for salads, sandwiches and more. Stick it on the barbeque just like a piece of chicken and go from there!
Your grocer or cheese monger may sell it as “Halloumi-style” or “grilling cheese” because if it’s not from Cyprus, it can’t carry the name.
